Visit to the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin

On Tuesday 26 September, the project team visited the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin as part of our preparations for the project's final conference in April 2024, which will be held at the museum. The Stiftung Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin is a non-profit foundation that operates two outstanding institutions dedicated to the history of technology in the German capital: the Deutsches Technikmuseum and the Science Center Spectrum. Together, the museum and the science centre welcome more than 600,000 visitors each year. It is also a project partner of our research project.

We met with Claudia Schuster, Curator of Shipping and Navigation, and Astrid Venn, Curator of Aerospace, to discuss our collaboration, the conference programme and logistics, including potential joint roundtables with museum curators and academics. We are hoping that museum curators and researchers will be able to use this opportunity to share their experiences when it comes to the inclusion of migrants and other minorities.

Earlier in the day, Floris, Oliver and Rémi explored various exhibits, including those on textile technology, sugar and printing. They looked at the wide range of interactive installations such as in the sections on paper making or printing. These hands-on explorations of historical techniques, together with the many installations showcase the museum's educational excellence.
